Rev. Udo Otukowo, a native of Uyo in Eastern Nigeria found a stray copy of the Science of Mind Magazine in 1963 and was moved by its contents. He followed this inspirational writing until in 1983 he was in the United States helping the Publications Department in distributing copies to other people in the world. During this time, he used the opportunity to study and qualify. In 1986 he returned to Nigeria to begin a church organization in Nigeria.

Before leaving Nigeria in 1983, Udo said, “I had finished SOM 1 and 2 using Home Study Course. While in U.S I audited Basic Principles of SOM and enrolled in Practitioners Courses. Despite the fact that I left my family in Nigeria, the joy of studying these principles and the wonderful, loving people I met in this organization made my stay a very short one.”

Uyo is the capital of Akwa Ibom State, one of the 36 states in Nigeria. It is well populated with higher institutions and a University. The population here is made up of young and talented individuals. Christianity is the only known religion from the onset.

The church attendance has increased from 35 in last report to 68 with 42 committed members in Uyo only. He teaches Foundational, Treatment and Meditation Classes and ignites the members with Bible wisdom. They hold Mid Week Healing Service every Wednesday; They hold Sunday school every Sunday morning before their usual Worship service.

Their vision today is to build their own edifice as a registered church. This is one of the conditions given to every registered church organization. They have already acquired land within Uyo Capital City area and their plans will be in view before the last quarter of this year.

In the area of spreading the Science of Mind Philosophy in Nigeria, with the many materials obtained from the headquarters, our country is fertile for production. Many of the pulpits here base their sermons on this philosophy. Being a registered church, they are expecting to get more members and spread to more areas this year. This writing refers to Uyo church and not other groups generally.

Their outreach includes donating to orphanage homes, hospitals, prisons and at times books to our institutions on the philosophy of Science of Mind.

They have a close working relationship with Unity Church in Nigeria. We attend each others functions, exchange ideas, organize seminars, workshops and guest speakers when necessary.

In the year 2005, the building they were using for service for many years was taken by eminent domain for a new road. It was a challenge to find a new place, but they did and signed a three year lease with help from UCSL. Now they have a new vision to move from where they are to a new place even if it means partially using it while under construction. They are still in need of furniture and funds to meet up their demands.

Rev. Udo would also like to have his own computer and a web site for the church in Uyo, Nigeria. Presently, they use a commercial computer and at times it is difficult to meet the needs of the church. They also need old and new metaphysical books and magazines, VCR, and also audio tapes, guest teachers and a regular contact with our members in the world.
