The Social Issues Committe is a new and groundbreaking activity within UCRS/UCSL which has emerged from The Global Heart. The work of the Social Issues Core is to identify local and global issues that are relevant to a world that works for everyone, to apply spiritual principles and move forward into appropriate spiritually motivated action; from “beingness to doingness . ”

Even though the Committee is only a year old, it has accomplished quite a lot thanks to the absolutely wonderful, dedicated and spiritually mature members:

Rev. Dr. Kathy Hearn, CSL Rev. Dr. Rainbow Johnson, Chair
Rev. Kathleen Geier Patti Generes, RScP
Rev. Mary Jo Honiotes Rev. Lynn Jardine
Rev. Dr. Frances Lorenz  Neil A. Mence, RScP
Rev. Hannah Rothlin Rev. Dr. LuisCarlos Sanchez
Sabian Shane Youth CSL  Rev. James Sisson

The Committee has already developed a Peace Statement:

S piritual Advocacy is a concept the core is working with and is currently creating a Spiritual Advocacy Handbook which includes such principle-based topics as “Working Together for Change,” “Visiting an Elected Official,” “Media Relations” and much more.

An interactive website is being created where information can be shared such as what our local communities are doing in regards to social issues, references to other spiritually aligned organizations and their activities, the activities of the Social Issues Core and UCSL involvement, and much more. We do have an e-mail address and we invite you to share your input, comments, and resources: socialissues@religiousscience.org.

As you can see the members of the core have been busy. There is a wonderful excitement about this group of individuals and we know that the time has come for principle-based social action. As Martha McCabe, RScP once said: “ Activism for me is a natural out-picturing in choices I make every day, within and without.” The choice is now up to us .
